Construction and Material Use
The hull of this sailing punter is made of wood and has a flat bottom, which is characteristic of punters designed for use on shallow inland waters. In the winter of 2023/2024, the ship was varnished, and in the spring of 2025, both the bottom and the floorboards were renewed. The hull is coated with a polyester layer up to the gunwale, which helps protect the wood from external influences. Additionally, an antifouling treatment was carried out in 2025.
With a length of 7 meters, a width of 2 meters, and a draft of only 10 centimeters, this punter is particularly suitable for use on canals, ditches, and other shallow inland waters. The clearance height of 95 centimeters with the mast lowered allows it to pass under low bridges, significantly increasing its navigational possibilities.
Sailing Equipment and Motorization
The Beulakermeer sailing punter is equipped with a fully removable rig, allowing the ship to be used both under sail and by motor. This makes the vessel versatile for different weather conditions and sailing areas. Steering is done via a tiller on the outside, with a single rudder.
For propulsion, there is a Honda 4-stroke outboard motor with 10 hp, with a manual start. This motor from 2011 has two cylinders and runs on gasoline. The cruising speed is around 10 kilometers per hour, with a maximum speed of approximately 15 kilometers per hour. The motor allows for comfortable sailing even without the rig.
Equipment and Accessories
The sailing punter comes with various equipment pieces that contribute to ease of use and safety on board. There is a two-piece heavy-duty tarpaulin, supplied in 2013 by sailmaker Boer from Giethoorn. This tarpaulin is equipped with zippers and offers protection against weather influences when the ship is not in use.
Additionally, there are two anchors with lines, fenders, mooring lines, and a flag present. The total weight of the ship is approximately 700 kilograms.
Usage and Sailing Experience
The sailing punter has mainly been used for pleasure cruising and day trips on inland waters. Thanks to the high gunwale, the ship offers extra safety, making it suitable for families with young children. The combination of a spacious cockpit, low draft, and simple operation makes the ship accessible to both novice and experienced water sports enthusiasts.
Berth and Registration
The current berth of the punter is in Wanneperveen. The ship is not registered. The boat is ready to sail and can be immediately used for recreational purposes on inland waters.
History and Special Features
This Beulakermeer sailing punter has a long history of use by one owner, who has owned the ship since 1994. The construction was based on personal wishes, giving the ship a unique character. The combination of traditional craftsmanship, a wooden hull with polyester protection, and practical equipment makes this ship a representative example of the Dutch punter tradition.
For enthusiasts of classic wooden ships with a functional layout and an authentic appearance, this sailing punter offers an interesting opportunity. The maintenance history and recent renewals to the hull and underwater ship contribute to the usability of this vessel.
