General Characteristics of the Sloop 650
The Sloop 650 is a steel vlet with a length of 6.50 meters and a width of 2.20 meters. The draft is 40 centimeters, making the boat suitable for various inland waters, including canals, lakes, ponds, and rivers. The clearance height of 1 meter allows it to pass under low bridges, making the sloop usable in urban areas such as Amsterdam. The hull is designed in a chine form, contributing to the stability and sailing properties of the vessel.
This sloop was built in 2009 as a self-build project. The name of the boat, "Kalastaja," is Finnish for "fisherman" and refers to the builder's personal connection with Finland. The finish is executed with attention to detail, including stainless steel bollards and a rope fender around the hull.Â

The cruising speed is around 8 kilometers per hour, with a maximum speed of approximately 12 kilometers per hour. The engine is operational and supported by instruments such as a fuel tank gauge, oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge, and tachometer.

Interior and Comfort Onboard
The steering of the sloop is done via a steering wheel, placed in the open cockpit. The steering position is outside, providing direct contact with the surroundings while sailing. The boat is equipped with a manual toilet, whose discharge does not go directly into open water.
For the comfort of the passengers, the sloop is equipped with a complete set of cushions, a sprayhood with renewed windows (2025), which can be made into a complete tarpaulin, fenders, and lines. At the rear, there is a swim platform with a swim ladder, making it easier to get in and out during recreational use on the water.
Maintenance and Condition of the Boat
The last time the sloop was taken out of the water for maintenance was in 2023. In the same year, the hull was treated with antifouling. The sprayhood was fully inspected and fitted with new windows in 2025. The boat is delivered without a trailer.
Special Features and Usage History
The Kalastaja served as a private tour boat during Sail 2025, demonstrating its usability for recreational purposes. The sloop has mainly been used for day trips, pleasure cruising, and short weekend trips. The sailing properties are described as stable and comfortable, even in varying water conditions.
A special detail is the valid passage vignette for the municipality of Amsterdam, which is valid until 2027. This makes the sloop immediately usable on the Amsterdam canals without additional permits.
Conclusion

Thanks to the steel construction, the inboard diesel engine, and the practical layout, this sloop is suitable for various sailing areas and recreational purposes.
