Ten Broeke AK950 (1979) – Characterful steel cruiser with dual helm stations and a comfortable interior

The Ten Broeke AK950 is a classic steel motorboat with a timeless look and a practical layout, designed for relaxed cruising on inland waterways, lakes and rivers. With a length of approx. 10.00 metres and a beam of 2.50 metres, this is a manageable cruiser that still offers surprisingly generous living space. The hard-chine hull contributes to stable handling and a pleasant ride, even when the water gets a bit choppy. With an air draft of around 3.75 metres there are plenty of route options, while with the mast lowered the boat can be attractive for routes with lower bridges. Inside, headroom is approx. 1.90 metres, making time on board comfortable for weekends away and longer holidays.

Ten Broeke AK950 now in the online auction. Anyone can bid up to and including 20 April 2026.

Handling and operation: light steering thanks to hydraulic conversion

What immediately stands out on this Ten Broeke cruiser is the presence of dual helm stations: you can steer both from inside the wheelhouse and from outside on the aft deck. This makes the boat appealing in different seasons—sheltered steering in poor weather and open-air cruising on sunny days. The steering has been converted to hydraulic, making it noticeably lighter and smoother. Combined with the single rudder, this results in predictable handling, pleasant for leisurely cruising and for docking. There is no bow thruster, but thanks to the compact beam and clear superstructure, manoeuvring in many marinas and locks remains very doable.

Engine and systems: Mitsubishi diesel with practical equipment

Propulsion is provided by a Mitsubishi 4.1400 Royal inboard diesel engine (4-cylinder) with 32 hp, electric start. The engine was overhauled in 2005, and in 2022 items such as hoses and filters were replaced, contributing to a tidy and transparent technical baseline. With a diesel tank of approx. 150 litres, there is a useful range for longer trips without constantly needing to refuel. On board you’ll find the key gauges, including tachometer, temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge and fuel gauge, so you can keep a close eye on engine condition while underway.

Electrically, the boat is set up for comfortable stays. There is shore power, a battery charger, alternator, voltmeter and an inverter (Victron Multiplus 1600). In addition, two solar panels have been installed, making the boat interesting for those who like to anchor for longer periods or stay in nature areas with fewer facilities. The system runs on 12V and 220V and there are three batteries on board. Navigation lights are operational and a depth sounder helps on shallower stretches.

Layout and comfort: sleeping for two to four, warm and practical

Inside, the Ten Broeke AK950 is arranged for comfortable living with two fixed berths and the option to create two additional sleeping places. Aft there is a fixed bed with storage underneath—ideal for luggage, provisions or onboard gear. Forward is a dinette that can easily be converted into a double bed, allowing flexible use of space: a cosy seating area by day and extra sleeping comfort at night.

The galley is practically laid out with a cooker, sink and a 12V refrigerator, well suited to use as a holiday boat and weekend cruiser. For cooler days there is a diesel heater with radiators, making the boat attractive for early and late season cruising. The interior was refreshed in 2022 with, among other things, new seat cushions and mattresses, and the woodwork was re-stained. The floor is finished with durable vinyl, which is easy to maintain and pleasant underfoot. A smart detail is the removable floor sections with hatch rings, keeping the engine space easily accessible.

Sanitary and water: electric toilet and a note regarding the holding tank

The vessel is equipped with an electric toilet. The toilet discharge currently goes directly overboard; a holding tank is present but still needs to be connected to the toilet. For buyers who plan to cruise in areas where a holding tank is preferred or required, this offers a clear opportunity to complete the system to their own preference. The freshwater tank has a capacity of approx. 120 litres. A point of attention is that the motor of the tap/drinking water pump should be checked.

Exterior, windows and deck: modern TopWindows and pleasant outdoor space

Outside, the AK950 offers a pleasant aft deck with direct access from the wheelhouse, making docking and communication with crew easier. At the stern there is a practical swim platform with swim ladder—ideal for a refreshing dip, boarding from a low quay, or simply relaxing by the water. Fenders and lines are included, as well as an anchor with line. In 2022 the hull received a new paint system and antifouling. The side decks still require painting—an easy, straightforward job for anyone who wants to finish the deck cosmetically to their own taste.

A major plus is that the windows were replaced in 2022 with modern plastic windows from TopWindows, black tinted for extra privacy and reduced condensation. It is noted that some windows may leak.

Supplied complete and ready for cruising plans

The sale includes various extras that make getting started easier, such as two captain’s chairs (usable inside or outside), life jackets, and a stock of consumables such as engine oil and coolant. Parts for the hydraulic steering are also included, including Vetus helm pumps and hydraulic oil. Combined with the solar panels, the Victron inverter, the heating and the smart layout, this Ten Broeke AK950 is an attractive steel cruiser for anyone looking for a characterful motorboat to start cruising right away—while still offering a few clear points of attention that you can finish to your own wishes.
