Remarkable history
Built from Scots pine by the Pedruicos shipyard in Lisbon, the Albarquel was the first Portuguese coastal vessel to be equipped with an engine from its construction. Originally designed for transporting salt between the Sado salt pans and Portuguese ports, this sailboat has sailed through many eras and renovations, becoming a pleasure craft for voyages in Northern Europe, South America, and beyond.
Since 2023, the Albarquel has been sailing in Charente-Maritime, aiming to promote ecological and environmentally respectful sailing while offering cruises and onboard training.
Equipment and onboard comfort The Albarquel can accommodate up to 28 passengers at sea and 50 passengers at the dock. Its solid wood furnishings include:
Several cabins equipped with single and double beds, with heating and sinks.
A fully equipped kitchen (oven, microwave, stove, refrigerator, freezer).
A large salon seating 12 people.
An independent wheelhouse with all necessary navigation instruments (GPS, VHF, compass, etc.).
Recent renovations The deck and superstructures were fully restored in 2008, and the whole rigging as well as the interiors benefited from careful restorations. The main Cummins engine was also overhauled to ensure optimal performance.
Why choose the Albarquel? The Albarquel offers a rare balance between tradition and modernity. It is perfect for various projects: cruises, expedition sailing, private events, or traditional sailing training.
