Remarks :
The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 50 DS is widely regarded as one of the most successful large cruising yachts of her era, combining excellent sailing performance with the comfort and light of a true deck saloon design. Freespirit is a particularly appealing example, finished with the highly desirable flag blue hull and benefiting from careful ownership throughout her life. Significantly, she has had only three private owners from new, with each owner having known the next, giving the boat an unusually traceable and well-connected ownership history.
Designed by Philippe Briand with interiors by Garroni, the 50 DS offers a spacious and welcoming layout, with a raised saloon providing panoramic views and excellent natural light. The three-cabin layout offers generous accommodation, including a well-appointed owner’s cabin and two comfortable guest cabins, making her ideally suited to family cruising or extended periods aboard. Internally, the boat presents in superb condition, clearly reflecting attentive ownership and continual upkeep over the years.
On deck, the cockpit is arranged into distinct areas for sailing, dining and relaxation, with twin wheels, teak seating, folding cockpit table and excellent access around the boat. Sailing systems are particularly well specified, with electric coachroof winch, rigid vang and a sail wardrobe which includes Code 0 and staysail arrangements.
Recent ownership has focused on practical upgrades and sensible maintenance, including replacement saildrive clutch, new batteries, solar charging installation, Rainman watermaker, upgraded anchoring systems and the inclusion of a Highfield tender with electric outboard.
Currently berthed in Marina Fertilia near Alghero, Sardinia, Freespirit represents an exceptionally well-equipped and carefully maintained example of this sought-after deck saloon cruiser. The berth may also be transferable, subject to marina approval.
Brokers Personal Remarks
Freespirit is a boat we know particularly well, having originally supplied her new and remained in touch throughout successive ownerships. The striking blue hull continues to set her apart and remains one of the most sought-after options on the 50 DS.
What stands out most with this example is the continuity of ownership and the condition internally. Having had only three owners from new, each known to the next, the boat has benefited from consistent and caring stewardship throughout her life.
The current owners have invested sensibly in practical cruising upgrades including solar charging, watermaker installation, upgraded sail inventory and improvements to the anchoring systems. Altogether she offers an excellent balance of comfort, capability and equipment for Mediterranean cruising and beyond.
