The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 50 DS is widely regarded as one of the most successful large cruising yachts of her era, combining excellent sailing performance with the comfort and light of a true deck saloon design. Freespirit is a particularly appealing example, finished with the desirable flag blue hull and benefiting from careful ownership throughout her life. This particular yachts has had only 3 owners from new.
Designed by Philippe Briand with interiors by Garroni, the 50 DS offers a spacious and welcoming layout, with a raised saloon providing panoramic views and excellent natural light. The three-cabin, two-heads configuration offers generous accommodation, including a well-appointed owner’s cabin forward and two comfortable aft cabins, making her well suited to family cruising or extended time aboard.
On deck, the cockpit is cleverly arranged into distinct areas for sailing, dining and relaxation, with twin wheels, teak seating, folding cockpit table and excellent access around the boat. Sailing systems are well specified, with electric winches, rigid vang and an extensive sail wardrobe including Code 0 and staysail arrangements.
Recent ownership has focused on sensible upgrades and maintenance, including new batteries, saildrive clutch replacement, solar charging, watermaker installation and improved ground tackle. The addition of a Highfield tender with electric outboard further enhances her cruising credentials.
Currently berthed in Marina Fertilia near Alghero, Sardinia, Freespirit represents a well-equipped and thoughtfully maintained example of this popular deck saloon cruiser.
Brokers Personal Remarks
Freespirit is a boat we know well, having originally sold her new and stayed in touch through successive ownerships. The blue hull really sets her apart and remains a sought-after feature on the 50 DS. The current owners have continued to look after her sensibly, investing in practical upgrades and keeping her in good overall order. She offers a strong balance of comfort, performance and equipment for Mediterranean cruising and beyond. The berth in Marina Fertilia may be transferable, subject to marina approval, which could be an added bonus for a new owner.
