Vixen is a 1978 Fairey Huntsman 31 fitted with Twin Forde Sabre 212hp Dielsel engines.
On deck, she presents beautifully. The varnished woodwork and paint finish shine, the teak decking looks well-maintained and in excellent condition, and the hull itself is striking. Following a survey in 2023, the hull was professionally sheathed as a precaution, and a further survey has since been completed.
Below deck, she retains the distinctive Fairey interior style. Although the cushions are currently stored off-site, giving a slightly minimal impression in photos, the space is clean, well-kept, and feels dry and fresh throughout.
The Fairey story began in aviation in 1915 in Southampton, England. Fairey Marine was established in 1946, initially to utilise surplus factory space following the end of wartime production. Having refined hot-moulding techniques in aircraft manufacturing, the company applied this expertise to boatbuildingâwith remarkable success. The Fairey Owners Club provides a far more detailed account of this history.
The Fairey Huntsman 31 was the last model produced using Faireyâs signature hot-moulded construction. The first example appeared in 1967, and a total of 32 hulls were built in Southampton before being completed by various boatyards. This particular vessel is hull number 28, moulded in 1972 and launched in 1978. As an aft-cabin version, she is especially appealing and truly stands out.
This is a charming and well-maintained example of a classic designâsure to attract attention wherever she goes. Currently housed in a boatshed, she remains warm, dry, and protected.
